The US Department of Commerce International Trade Administration (ITA) has created 15 types of electrical outlet plugs by assigning a letter starting with the first alphabet A and so on. 15 Types of Electrical Outlet Plugs
Type A outlet plugs are mainly used in the USA, Mexico, Canada and Japan. These 15A-rated plugs have 2 pins, are not grounded and mostly between 100 to 127 V.
Widely used in the USA, Mexico, Canada and Japan, Type B outlet plugs are rated at 15 A and consist of 3 pins. They are grounded and are mostly between 100 to 127 V.
Type C outlet plugs are commonly used in South America, Europe and Asia. With 2 pins and compatible sockets, they are not grounded and are rated at 2.5A.
This type of outlet plugs are mostly used in India. Type D plugs are between 220 to 240 V and are grounded with 3 pins. At 5A, they come with compatible sockets that have unsafe and partial compatibility with C, E and F.
Mostly used in Belgium, France, Czechia, Slovakia and Poland, Type E outlet plugs are grounded and have 2 pins. At 16A, they are between 220 to 240 V and come with a socket that is compatible with plug types C, E & F.
Type F outlet plugs are used across Russia and Europe except for Ireland and the UK. They are grounded at 16A with 2 pins. With sockets compatible with plug types C, E and F, Type F plugs are between 220 to 240 V.
These kinds of outlet plugs are prominently used in the UK, Malta, Ireland, Singapore and Malaysia. They have 3 kids and are grounded at 13A from 220 to 240 V with compatible sockets.
Type H outlet plugs are used mainly in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Israel. With 3 pins and socket compatible with plug types C and H but unsafe compatibility with E and F., They are grounded at 16A and between 220 and 240 V.
This kind of outlet plugs are mostly used in Argentina, Australia, China and New Zealand. Type I plugs with 2 pins are not grounded but those with 3 pins are grounded. At 10A, they are between 220 to 240 V and come with a compatible socket.
Used mainly in Liechtenstein and Switzerland, Type J plugs contain 3 pins and are grounded at 10A. These outlet plugs are between 220 to 240 V and come with sockets compatible with C and J type plugs.
These grounded outlet plugs are used especially in Greenland and Denmark. Type K plugs range from 220 to 240 V and have 3 pins. The sockets are compatible with plug types K and C, while they are unsafe for E and F.
Type L outlet plugs are used mainly in Chile and Italy & Chile. Ranging from 220 to 240V, they are grounded at 10A and 16A with 3 pins. 10A sockets are compatible with C and L type plugs. While 16 A sockets are compatible with plug type L.
With 3 pins and being grounded at 15A, Type M outlet plugs are used predominantly in South Africa. They are between 220 and 240V and have got compatible rockets.
Type N outlet plugs are mainly used in South Africa and Brazil. At 10A and 20A, they are grounded, have 3 pins and are between 100 to 240 V. The socket is compatible with C and N plug types.
Used mainly in Thailand, Type O plugs have 3 pins, are grounded, between 220 and 240V. At 16A, they have sockets that are compatible with C and O plug types and incompatible with E and F plugs.
